Transperformance was not quite the same, since it was in the high school instead of the park, but it was a good time, as usual.
After an exhausting day of orientation, Dave picked me up at home so I could catch some of Transperformance. I didn't get back in time to see The Fawns as Blondie, but I heard they did a great job. Russ and Henning performed one Henry Nilsson song. Russel is always a hit at Transperformance. One guy behind me and Lauren kept saying, "It's Lord Russ!" Either he couldn't believe his eyes/ears, or he wanted to make sure everyone around him knew that HE KNEW.
And Winterpills as Yo La Gershwin (or Yo La Gershberlin)? You had some doubts about that too? Yeah, so did I. They rocked. Dennis Crommett came up with some seriously good mashups of Yo La Tengo Songs and Gershwin standards. (I am not saying this next thing to degrade any other Trans-performers, so please don't take it that way; the bands always do such a great job preparing for this show and I always love seeing everyone perform.) I really think Yo La Gershwin is the most interesting thing that's ever happened at a Transperformance. Am I wrong?
Dennis is an evil genius when it comes to music, I'm afraid. I mean, seriously: I know you've heard the real bands, but have you heard the fake band?
