Hi. Remember me?

Wow. It's been a hectic December. Does that go for everyone, or just me? After final papers and cat ilnesses, Dave and I finally ended up in NH on Wednesday and got back yesterday. It was nice to visit with family, but that is a long, long drive. On Tuesday I start teaching intensive Spanish at Hampshire College, which is kind of exciting. I hear the students are really motivated and excited, so that will be a nice change of pace from UMass. Anyway- it's New Year's Eve. What are you doing tonight? I'm going to take a nap in preparation for the festivities.

Clem must be feeling better- he's knocking things off the coffee table.

It's been a long week. We think Clem is cured, but have cancelled our Christmas travel plans so we can be sure. He spent all day Thursday at the vet, getting various types of fancier and more expensive x-rays. In the end, all we know is he was really gassy, throwing up, and generally unhappy with life. When we brought him home Thursday night, he was nearly back to his old self- and he wanted to eat, which wasn't the case for the past couple of days. Yesterday, he went back to the vet for one last x-ray and has been normal, happy Clem ever since. This is a very good thing, not just because we want the kitty to be happy and not feel sick, but also because the vet thought we might have to get him emergency surgery. We decided to spend the weekend at home, just me, Dave and the cats, to make sure Clem is still feeling okay, and because we now have *no time* to spend in New Hampshire with my family. We'll make up the visit sometime next week, when all is much calmer.

For today, I'd like to finish writing my paper, so I can take a day off and then look it over and fix what needs to be fixed. Like I said, it's been a long week.

I hope everyone has nice weekends.

Cat update

Clem seems to be feeling much better today. He slept all day yesterday and wouldn't eat or drink very much water. Last night we brought the basket he likes to sleep in down from the top of the closet and put it in our bedroom, at the foot of the bed, so he would hang out and spend the night there. At about four this morning he and Rosa woke up and went out into the kitchen, where he drank a lot of water and ate some food. Since then, he's been eating more and walking around a little faster, and looking much happier. I guess, unelss he starts climbing the walls this morning (unlikely, since he's had a rough couple of days), I'll still take him to the vet this morning. I just want to be sure he's okay, since I have to leave the kitties at home by themselves for the long weekend.

Distracted

I had a very productive day of reading and thinking, until I got home early this afternoon to find one of the cats -Clem- apparently feeling under the weather. He had been sick last night, which I attributed to his having eaten too much, but today he just slept and slept in the hall closet and hasn't eaten anything all day. Now we've taken him out of the closet and he's sleeping in front of one of the heating vents in the kitchen. He's going to the vet tomorrow, but I'd really just like him to start feeling better. I can't get through a page of reading without going to check in on him. Poor little guy!

Two down, one to go.

For the first time, ever, in my academic career, I just thought: "Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I just don't write this final paper, and take a lower grade in the class." Fun! I love school.

Holiday... cheer?

I mentioned these a couple of months ago but, as TMN reminds me, 'tis the season to check out Brandon Bird's Christmas letters to Christopher Walken again.

No heat!

No heat! Please come back, heat. I have lots of work to do and the cold makes me want to go lie under the blankets and sleep.

Still too busy to blog, but...

I got some granola with my milk delivery this morning, which I promptly mixed in with some yogurt, only to discover that the raisins are frozen from being outside this morning. Very disconcerting.

Do you think Dave and I will finally use our three-year-old snowshoes today? I hope so.

Hey, you know what was really nice? The Winterpills and Death Vessel show last night. Matthew from The Kamikaze Hearts played with Joel from DV, so that made for a nice pairing. And WP sounded great.

You know what else was nice? Waking up this morning to snow and cancelled school for both me and Dave- especially since I totally effed up setting the alarm clock for some reason and Dave would have had to leave the house about a half hour earlier! I get to spend time, now, (what I ought to be doing instead of blogging) on my final paper for Cervantes.

The only catch: I went to the eye doctor this week and am supposed to get reading glasses which are finally ready today, so now I still have to take the bus to UMass at some point to pick them up, so my work this weekend will be a little easier to take. (It's my first pair of eyeglasses ever, but now that I've even tried out the lenses for thirty seconds, I can really tell the difference and am looking forward to using them.)

An open letter to The O.C.

Dear The O.C.,

I have a big favor to ask you. You see, next Thursday, Winterpills are playing with Death Vessel at the Iron Horse. Normally, Eliza, Flora, Lauren, and I watch your show together. As you can see, we'll be otherwise occupied. (Not to mention that Dave is totally into the show, too, and will be sad to not see it, but won't admit it.) So, I was hoping you might consider postponing next week's episode, and maybe play it on Saturday or something. I don't think it's an unreasonable request, really. I just wanted to write you today and give you plenty of time to work out the scheduling.

Thanks,
Kelsey

PS- Yes, as a matter of fact I do have something more important I should be doing right now. But the reading just isn't holding my attention.
