All this was followed by the 10 AM matinee- several hours later, of course.
Last night at about 2:00 AM (I'm guessing), an SUV somehow rolled over and smashed into a tree right outside our house- closer, actually, than I thought at the time, I now realize. Just as we were about to call the police, our upstairs neighbors ran outside to make sure everything was alright and, remarkably, it was- the guy was out of his car and apparently fine. He kept saying he was really nervous, and then the police came. There were flashing lights and loud trucks out there for about an hour and a half, during which time I couldn't get back to sleep- partly because it totally freaked me out. Especially when the guy's girlfriend showed up and began screaming and crying. He must not have been drunk, since the cops just let him go home and were really nice to him at the end of it all. This morning there were huge skid marks through the lawn of the Smith Campus School next door, leading right up to the tree.
Anyway, I'm glad the fellow is alright and I really hope to not see many more accidents here, this being the second I've seen in less than a year. Our old neighbors kind of indicated that this happens fairly frequently.
