The Ridge

I'd been meaning to post something about our weekend at Falcon Ridge, but I think DG's movie sums it up pretty well:

The week winds down.

I decided to skip Falcon Ridge for tonight, so Dave has the option of staying up there if he's tired, and so Eliza can get a ride back with him and not have to drive by herself (with drums, the car fits only one passenger...). But tomorrow we're going to head back to NY and spend a couple of nights there while Winterpills do more band things. And this way I won't be too groggy in my class tomorrow- in our new, air conditioned room!

I'm a little distracted from lesson planning, though, because I have a wardrobe problem. Remember my everyday green skirt? No? Of course not. It's a cute, green, jersey skirt that I wear at least twice a week. I can't find it! Did it get left at the laundromat? Is it just somewhere in my disgustingly messy house? Did I leave it somewhere when we went away for the weekend? I just don't know, but I feel like I'm running out of summer clothing options all of a sudden! I hope it turns up soon, or I don't know what might happen. I might have to go reclaim some of of the clothes that have been purloined by my lovely sister.

Vacation is officially over.

My summer class began this week. I currently have 16 students in this elementary Spanish class, all of whom seem very nice. The heat has made it nearly impossible to get through the hour and a half class period in a very stuffy room. The students are all fanning themselves and sweating the whole time, so I requested a change to someplace air conditioned, which I hope works out before too long!

I'm trying to figure out if I will go with Dave tomorrow night to see Winterpills at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. It would be a late night and I didn't get it together to have someone substitute my class for me. I'm not sure if I want to be out until 2:00 AM before teaching at 9:30, and Dave might stay in a hotel if I don't go... so I think I'm probably going to skip it. It would be fun to see, though. I missed their show at the Green River festival last week, but hopefully I can make it to the SoNo festival in August. All these festivals! It sounds like such a stupid word after typing it so many times.

Do we really want to shift Earth's orbit? Can that possibly be a good idea?

Well, I just don't know what to make of World Jump Day...

A visit to the farmer's market tomorrow, and I think I will be a full-on hippy.

Dave and I saw An Inconvenient Truth at the Academy of Music on Wednesday night. It was a really great film and, though it was sort of scary to see how close we are to totally screwing the environment, we left the theater feeling like there was still hope that we can fix some of the damage we've done. The Center for Ecological Technology was sort of hosting the film and had lots of information on how to save energy and reduce your carbon dioxide emissions, including how to sign up for green energy from your electric company. I signed us up yesterday morning, since I figured out it would cost about another $7 a month to do so. Not bad, eh?

Checking in, with shoes.

Early fall items at Anthropologie have once again brought a pair of boots I wish I could own:

Each fall, it's these boots that must be by the same company that draw me in- same shape in the toe and heel, same nice leather, and same $328 price tag. This means they will never belong to me.
