Well rested

When Dave and I first moved in together, a friend of his sister's was getting rid of an old king size mattress and box spring, which we took off their hands. It lived on the floor of our Florence apartment, and eventually we got a bed frame and head board from West Elm.

Now, it's been about five years and the mattress was really old and uncomfortable. But, it turns out king size mattresses are really, really expensive. Did you know that? They sure are. We started thinking about options this summer, when Dave was sleeping less and less well. But everything was way, way out of our price range. The only mattresses that were affordable were the Ikea options. So this weekend we stopped in New Haven and checked them out.

Having heard that foam mattresses were comfortable, that's what we were looking for. We tried out several options, and ended up deciding on the Sultan Forestad. And they had a king in stock!

So, after a very nervewracking drive up 95 from New Haven with a rolled-up king size mattress strapped to the roof of the Prizm, we now have an incredibly comfortable mattress and have never slept better.

one day left

The summer course I'm teaching ends tomorrow and I'll have two weeks before the semester begins, so it's time to try and get myself organized*, for a change. As much as a fully intend to be budget-conscious when I get ready for my classes to begin, I do get sucked in by pretty school supplies like the ones they have at Essentials.

I love the stuff by Russel and Hazel:

expanding file

composition books

magnetic bird paperclip holder

desk organizer

I, however, will buy $1 composition books at ACME Surplus or the Dairymart by my house. I bet they'll work just as well...

*It's also time to squeeze in one more trip to the beach, since I do have a new bathing suit.

more cuteness

Have you seen the new Winterpills t-shirts?

(just one of the several options for color and design... the one I have!)

spree?

I've been doing a bit more shopping lately than might be expected of someone in my financial state... well, what can you do? I needed a new bathing suit and had been putting it off. My old bathing suit is a black bikini I bought in Spain about seven years ago, which seemed normal and basic at the time, but now seems rather skimpy. So I ordered these two pieces from American Apparel:

I also have been working on the ever-challenging hunt for jeans, which finally led me to some success at American Eagle. Since my very perfect, if a bit long, gap jeans are so expensive, I've been looking for alternatives that are not too long. I found two pairs I ilked and bought only one in the store... but then bought the other online...

So, good for the wardrobe... questionable for the wallet...
